Colutta Estate can be found in one of the most prestigious wine-producing regions of Italy, Colli Orientali del Friuli, a small area located in the northeastern corner of Italy. The third generation family owned winery came to be in 1939 when Antonio Colutta purchased a small country house with a vineyard and some field crops attached.
Antonio used his purchased land for the management of sharecropping; tenants planted grapes, corn, and mulberry leaves for silkworms. The harvest was divided, and Antonio produced wine to sell to locals within his village and the nearby town of Udine.
In 1968 Antonio's sons, Gianpaolo and Giansandro set out to expand the sale of wines, and bottle their first production of Tocai and Merlot. The family invested in equipment and extended the vineyards. Eventually Colutta wine was on the tables of Italy's finest restaurants.
In 1998 the company began a new course when Giorgio Colutta (son of Giansandro) took over the family business. With great ambition and determination, Giorgio has spent years searching for new markets and exhibiting Colutta wines around the globe. Since 1999 Colutta export sales have increased from five percent to sixty percent.
Today Colutta is a classic and reputable brand, well-known throughout Italy, Europe, the USA, South America, Asia, and Australia. The estates most distinguished wines are from the traditional D.O.C (guaranteed quality) line; Pinot Grigio DOC, Chardonnay DOC, Friulano DOC, and Cabernet Sauvignon DOC are only a few of the wines in the classic range.
